Leunig
"Love one another and you will be happy. It’s as simple and as difficult as that." — Michael Leunig
Michael Leunig’s art looks at life with clear eyes — seeing its beauty, absurdity, and challenges all at once. His drawings and words capture the tenderness, humour, and confusion of being human in a complex world. His characters stumble, wonder, and persist, holding fast to small joys, unexpected beauty, and the quiet belief that, in the end, we’ll be okay.
Affirmations is honoured to partner with Michael’s studio to carry his torch forward. In Spring 2025, we launched a new greeting card range featuring some of his most recognisable and enduring pieces — art that invites reflection, hope, and connection. Whether you’ve known his work for decades or are meeting it for the first time, there’s a truth and warmth here that resonates.
We are also distributing the 2026 Leunig Calendar.
Australian cartoonist, writer, painter, philosopher and poet Michael Leunig (1945–2024), known simply as ‘Leunig’, contributed to The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald for more than five decades. He began with traditional political cartoons, but in 1969 — restless with the genre’s boundaries — he sent in a surreal drawing of a man wearing a teapot on his head, riding into the sunset on a large duck. It was published, and Leunig later saw it as a symbol of his own break from convention.
Across his career, his art and words have filled 25 books, appeared in exhibitions of prints, paintings and drawings, and found new life in television, theatre and radio. His work continues to speak to the human condition — mixing humour, tenderness, and a clear-eyed view of the world.
