A year worth writing down
Our stationery ranges for the year ahead
There’s something quietly powerful about holding a beautiful card or opening a journal to a fresh page. It’s a small act, but an intentional one – a moment where you choose to pause, to feel, to connect. At Affirmations, that belief sits at the heart of everything we create. And this year, we have three stationery ranges that we think carry it beautifully!
Cottonwood Studio
Art you can hold in your hands
The Cottonwood Studio range is, at its core, born from a life lived close to the land. Painted in watercolour from the banks of the Never Never River in the Gleniffer Valley, these designs carry the quiet beauty of the Australian landscape – its light, its softness, its sense of stillness.
Whether it’s a card sent to mark a birthday, a journal to accompany a new chapter, or a diary to anchor the year, every piece in this range feels like an original. That’s because, in spirit, it is. Each image began as paint on paper, made by hand, in a real place. That tactile authenticity travels with it.
For anyone wanting to surround themselves – or someone they love – with art that feels grounding and genuinely Australian, this is the range to reach for.
Twigseeds
Gentle words. Everything you needed to hear.
The Twigseeds range has always worked its quiet magic in the same way – a small watercolour image and words that somehow say exactly the right thing. It’s a deceptively simple formula, and one that resonates because it leaves room… room for the reader to bring their own meaning.
In a year when many people are navigating change, uncertainty, or simply the business of everyday life, the Twigseeds range offers something rare: a moment of gentle reassurance delivered with love. These are cards people keep on their desks, tuck into purses, pin to noticeboards. They become small daily companions.
Journals and notebooks from this range carry the same spirit, making them the perfect choice for anyone beginning a new practice of reflection, gratitude, or simply writing down what matters.
Leunig
A beloved voice, carried forward with love
When Michael Leunig passed away in December 2024, Australia lost one of its most tender and truthful voices. It was an honour and a responsibility to sit with his family near Hepburn and talk about how his work might continue to reach people – to comfort, to provoke, to remind us of what matters.
The Leunig range at Affirmations is the result of that conversation. Cards, a diary, a journal, a calendar, notebooks, list pads and Little Affirmation packs of 24 small reminders for each day – each one a small vessel for Michael Leunig’s unmistakable art and words: his duck; his open skies; his capacity to hold joy and sorrow in the same breath.
Giving someone a Leunig card this year is a way of saying: I see you; I know what you carry; here is something beautiful for it.
Making the most of beautiful stationery
- Keep a small stack of cards somewhere visible – on your desk, in the kitchen, etc. When someone crosses your mind, you’re already halfway there.
- Don’t wait for occasions. A card sent on an ordinary Tuesday often lands harder than one sent on a birthday, because it was chosen, not obligated.
- Start your diary or journal in the middle of the year if that’s when you find it. Taking time to journal or reflect is one of the most quietly powerful habits we can cultivate. When we pause to put words to our experiences – to examine what happened, how we felt, and what it meant – we move from simply living our days to truly understanding them. Reflection creates a little breathing room between experience and reaction, helping us notice patterns, process emotions, and gain perspective that the busy rush of daily life rarely allows. A journal becomes a conversation with yourself; honest, private, and unhurried. And over time, an extraordinary record of your own unfolding.
- Use your most beautiful stationery first. The special occasion you’re saving it for is already here – it’s called today.
From all of us at Affirmations, here’s to a year of meaningful words, thoughtful gestures, and the joy of finding the right card at the right moment. We make these things because we believe in the power of what’s written by hand, sent with intention, and received with an open heart.
